This week we’ll be talking about building your tribe. This is a great thing to think about anytime, but especially at the beginning of the year.

There are 7 steps to building a successful social media platform. During the next few weeks, we will be going over these steps one at a time.

The steps are:

  1. Create a Vision
  2. Set Strategic Goals
  3. Find Your Social Media Voice (Persona)
  4. Build Your Social Media Platform
  5. Create a Publishing Plan
  6. Build Your Tribe (Community)
  7. Evaluate Your Results
  8. (Yes, I said there are 7 steps, but I’m going to doing 8 posts and #8 will be a summary of tools of the trade – stay tuned to find out about useful things like Buffer, Hootsuite, and others).

This week we’ll talk about building your community.

4 Ways to build traffic and likes for your FB page:

  1. Ask
    Email, tweet, text your close colleagues, friends, and clients and request they like your page.
  2. Ask some more
    Invite all your business email contacts to like your FB page
  3. Strategic tagging
    Tag related pages and thought leaders to gain more visibility
  4. Consistent publishing and engagement
    The more people notice that you stick around, the more they’ll engage with your content. Post relevant information information on a regular basis. Ask leading questions. Respond when others comment. Thank people when they share your posts.

John Haydon, author of Facebook Marketing for Dummies and founder of Inbound Zombie, says that what really matters on Facebook is likes, comments, and shares.
